The Hardest Kind of Love

Unconditionally
she gave.
Love in all
its many shades.
Word, and act.
And kind thought.

Generosity unbound.

Gave to all
but one,
that is.

For herself, she’d
reserve the most
critical of eyes.
The most violent
of words.

For herself, she’d
avoid the most
pressing of truths.

Until one unexpected day,
when it seemed that
the world had not
a single remaining soul
left that she hadn’t loved,
she caught sight of
her own extraordinary self.
And fell to her knees
with a final shard
of clear sight.

The 51 second piece above is entitled ‘Unconditional Self Love’. JANET HARVEY participated in a Soul Biographies JOURNEY Retreat. NOTE. Janet is not the girl in the poem!
