A few months back I was interviewed by Mary Alice Arthur as a part of the STORY THE FUTURE Project. I was subsequently told by someone who had studied the Inner View Method with me, that I really ought to listen back to it as my words articulated exactly what is going on with the camera and awareness. It concerns surrender.

Words From An Inner Viewer (a Program Participant) to Someone Who Wasn’t There
I learned how to give you my full and undivided attention. To not need you to be anything different, so as to allow you to speak truth from deep in your soul.
And I learned to do this with a video camera running, so that what you speak you may see yourself. And if it were to be of service to the world, to enable you to share it with many.
I learned how I might accept, if not love, you unconditionally. And I have an idea I might be on the way to doing this for myself.
I experienced the immense power of vulnerability first hand. And for a short time at least I surrendered control to life itself and that piece of it leaves me lost for words.
During the Inner View Method PROGRAMS the live film feed of each participant is fed to a monitor. We often use a projector. In our latest adventure the image of each person’s head measured somewhere between 7 and 8 feet tall. And with just 10 participant explorers for the 5 days there was truly nowhere to hide. Which with the experience of the interior world, is important.
I’ve come to understand that in the end it is best to experience this ‘non-dual’ experience, rather than talk about it. This is what changes everything.
In our newly found UK Inner View Home, a Rutland Farm, one wall is covered with the image of a forest. I was testing the set up without the projection screen down, and ended up looking somewhat unusual (OPEN THE POST!). If I ever film a druid, then I shall keep the projection screen retracted.

Our innermost yearning is to be seen. And to know that we each belong without condition. But when this is not our experience, we are compelled to act dysfunctionally and it drives us further from one another’s sight. I become blind to you. And you to me …
Someone had asked whether they could arrange a live Inner View Filming Experience at their event, as a creative alternative to hiring a speaker. I included these few words to give him a sense of what might happen if they were to do so …
“The room quietens as another film subject emerges deliberately from the audience. She, or he, approaches the Inner View Camera with something to say. Something worthwhile speaking. Words that have purpose, and an obvious use in his or her world. Perhaps even to the world at large. Words that set out to convince us all.
The subject sits. Close to the camera. Close to me. Eyes closed, ever deepening breath, as the spartan words of instruction remove any requirement from our time together. The point of being here, that was so vividly etched into a previously important list is now lost, as the image is cast in high contrast black and white to a large screen. Arrestingly beautiful. Always. We are all to be included unreservedly in this experience of the human soul made visible. Of humanity witnessed.
From a palpable and utter stillness, it is as if the subject ‘is spoken’. Words. And space. And an unbridled vulnerability of such profound importance that the audience cannot turn away.
Here there is nowhere to hide. Here there is no need to hide. Here there is the surrender of control, the control that kept us from seeing one another. From seeing ourselves. Here, for this moment in time there is freedom. And an experience that will most probably live deep within each of us.” …
A participant on leaving an Inner View Program was overheard saying;
“This is the first time in my life that I never wrote a single note. Five Days. FIVE DAYS. And for some inexplicable reason, I feel that I’ve remembered more about my place in the world than I could have ever learned.”
This appears to be the way of surrender.
From this stillness and safety, the speaker starts to think more deeply, originally and creatively.
Previous jumbled thinking starts to make sense.
It feels like a truth, our real truth, who we really are, begins to emerge.
This is like a hallowed place.

A few reflective words I wrote a year or so back. Trouble is the experience for most appears to be refractive.
As I gaze into the world, I realise
that nothing falters in its

A viewer who had been a participant (a witness from the audience and the witnessed in front of the camera) wrote to me with these few words of warning;
‘… sitting in the audience may appear to be a somewhat ‘safer’ way to engage in the work due to the distance from the camera and the intimacy of Nic’s full attention … but this is a false security. By witnessing Nic at work you will meet yourself and inevitably you will be profoundly moved by who you see. In so many ways it makes no difference where you are in relation to the camera.’ …
Beyond the High Prison Walls

This guitar track was just recorded. In Dm9 tuning.
The track is named after the late Canadian Guitarist MICHAEL WATERS. It was he who first introduced me to this dreamlike tuning. As we sat each early morning in Hollyhock (Cortes Island, British Colombia, Canada) playing guitar and speaking of how unfathomable life really is.
We of course played exclusively in Dm9 (DADFAE) …
