I listened to an ON BEING interview entitled ‘Contemplating Mortality’, between Dr Ira Byock and Krista Tippett. Dr Byock mentions a coined phrase ‘the four things that matter most‘, used widely in the hospice movement.
Just four statements. Using just eleven words.
Please forgive me. I forgive you. Thank you. I love you.
They would seem appropriate words to use well before one’s dying breath.
If only we had the courage to do so.
Do see the film in the Permanent Collection, ON THE EDGE OF LIFE AND DEATH.
